Hospitality Sector

In India, tourism is the largest service industry, and contributes 6.23% of the national GDP and 8.78% of the total employment in the country
Currently it provides employment to approximately 31 million (both direct & indirect) people. This number is expected to rise to over 40 million by 2019 and over 43 million by 2022.
One of the biggest challenges of the hospitality industry is the workforce mismatch: hotel management institutes are producing 80% managers and only 20% workers, but the industry needs 75% trained workers and just 25% managers.
The educational level required for approximately 40% of the human resources, in hotels and restaurants (including cafes and fast food outlets), is up to high school along with a short term skills training in functional areas such as housekeeping, kitchen assistants, waiters, security guards, etc.
Some of the main skills gaps of the latter mentioned staff is related to insufficient communication skills, such as inability to communicate in English, poor team work capacity, personal hygiene, etc.
